This is my favorite of the Donald Strachey detective stories that have so far been interpretted for film.
The plot, centering on an aging lesbian couple, is more complex than others in the Strachey series, and the
acting is up to the challenge…for the most part.
The characters are engaging and the villains are thoroughly villainous, as they should be. What really
sets this film apart from many of the genre is the skill with which bits of information are revealed to our
protagonist and ourselves.
It is simply well done, quality entertainment with an occasional social message tucked in, of course.
